Source page: https://geographichistory.app/empire/ptolemaic-kingdom/

On the Geographic History map, the Ptolemaic Kingdom appears from 322 BC to 30 BC. It reaches its largest mapped extent in 319 BC: about 1.3 million km² across 36 provinces.

After Alexander's death in 323 BC his general Ptolemy took Egypt, and his descendants ruled it from Alexandria for almost three centuries as Greek-speaking pharaohs. The Ptolemies made Alexandria a capital of learning, with its famous Library and Lighthouse. The dynasty ended with Cleopatra VII, whose defeat at Actium led Rome to annex Egypt in 30 BC.

## About this map

Territory comes from the Chronas historical dataset used by the Geographic History app. Areas are approximate, computed from about 2,400 province shapes, and describe this map rather than official historical figures - border data for the ancient and medieval world is necessarily a reconstruction.
