Source page: https://geographichistory.app/empire/mamluk-sultanate/

On the Geographic History map, the Mamluk Sultanate appears from 1250 to 1517. It reaches its largest mapped extent in 1277: about 1.4 million km² across 40 provinces.

The Mamluk Sultanate was ruled by former slave soldiers who seized power in Egypt in 1250. In 1260 they stopped the Mongols at Ain Jalut, and in 1291 they took Acre, ending the Crusader presence in the Levant. From Cairo they ruled Egypt, Syria and the Hejaz until the Ottomans conquered them in 1516-1517.

## About this map

Territory comes from the Chronas historical dataset used by the Geographic History app. Areas are approximate, computed from about 2,400 province shapes, and describe this map rather than official historical figures - border data for the ancient and medieval world is necessarily a reconstruction.
